Threshold - Original
Pen and ink on paper — Aurora CollectionOriginal, one of a kind · Signed by the artist
An experiment that turned into something worth keeping.
A jagged burst of red opens the piece like a spark, or a signal, sharp angular lines radiating outward before the composition folds into two hooded, armor-like figures built entirely from crosshatching. That crosshatching is the real subject here. Matt was testing a new set of Pigma Micron pens for the first time, pushing the same pattern from a light, open fill to a dense, saturated black across the piece, sometimes within the same shape. Small solid burgundy and black dots punctuate the figures like buttons, or eyes, or something else entirely.
The result reads architectural and a little unsettling, structures that could be masks, mountains, or something standing guard. Threshold doesn't try to resolve into one clear image. It holds the tension of the experiment itself: control on one end, saturation pushed to its limit on the other.
